[...] Since last Valentines Day, we enjoyed another full year of Dad’s cheating at Wheel of Fortune and unusual culinary advice. We played card games, told stories, argued our traditional family topics. One night last year after dinner, he explained that his oncologist explicitly forbade his helping with dinner dishes, as it might “undo” the chemo’s impact. As always, he turned to mom for confirmation. As usual, mom wrinkled her face at him and said, “I’m staying out of this.” [...]

Thanks both John and Jeffrey. I appreciate the warm sentiments and strength sent through your words. Thank you.

I came to Huntley tonight to spend a few weeks hanging out with Dad and family. We were watching Wheel of Fortune tonight and competing against one another. Dad solved 4 of the 5 words in the puzzle, but I shouted out the last word while he was started to cough.

He said, "You realize you stole the puzzle from a sick, old man. I was coughing."

I said, "The important thing to remember here, is that I beat you."

Ah, family love.

Edmond, I send blessing energy to you. I have understanding of dealing with parents' illnesses as I've gone through it with both my parents in the 90s. From what you wrote, I sense that your family has much strength to weather this.

Edmond (aka Ted),
I am sorry to hear about your Dad. I lost my mother-in-law to cancer about three years ago. She fought it for twenty years so don't count your Dad out quite yet. News like that has a way of refocusing what is truly important in life. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.
