Easter Morning

I had the Very Best Possible Easter morning Surprise.

Yesterday, a package arrived from Mom and Dad. I was pretty sure what was inside. If other years were any indication, there would be a few frosted & decorated, sugar cookies: an egg, a chick, and probably a bunny with one or both ears broken off during transit. Homemade, of course. There would be a plastic egg full of pastel-colored M&Ms, a few Recess Peanut Butter cups, a chocolate/maple egg, and probably a festive short-sleeve shirt to welcome Spring. Oh, and jelly beans – with a few extra black ones thrown in just for me.

All of this would be buried under that nasty, plastic green Easter grass.

It’s a lovely tradition that my parents (thankfully) refuse to outgrow. The Easter Bunny delivers, year after year.

I absolutely love it.

The package arrived yesterday and I was excited, knowing what was inside. Because I planned to spend most of the day in my basement packing up boxes – this Easter package from Mom and Dad was pretty much the extent of my celebrating.

I didn’t open the package right away. My friend Chris and I were getting together soon and I was already running a bit late. So I set it on the dining room table.

In our errand-running that afternoon, Chris and I picked up a number of boxes from the liquor store and back at home, I set them on the dining room table. My parents “Easter basket” was hidden from view; I forgot it was there.

This morning at 6:00 a.m. I woke and came downstairs to uh…you know…piss. (Sorry, the story gets a little crude right there.)

Much to my delight, the first thing I glimpsed when I came down the stairs was the Easter package sitting on the dining room table.

Easter morning!

An unopened package!

Black jellybeans and homemade cookies!

The Easter Bunny had performed his miracle again this year.

Thank you, Easter Bunny(ies)!
